Swim Coach in Hot Water After Child Pornography Charge
TAUNTON, Mass. — A North Attleborough man who coached swimming at an area high school as well as a YMCA and private swim club has been arraigned on possession of child pornography charges.
Timothy Kelly was released on $75,000 bail after a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf Tuesday in Taunton District Court.
Prosecutors allege the 38-year-old Kelly had sexually explicit images of children on his computer as well as on DVDs in his apartment.
The Sun Chronicle of Attleboro reports that Kelly was the swim coach at North Attleborough High School, aquatics director at the Attleboro YMCA, and a swim coach at the Bearcroft Swim Club.
Police say there is no evidence that local children were harmed.
Kelly’s lawyer says his client is cooperating with authorities.

Tim Kelly was a very successful swim coach for North Attleboro High School. Tim was so successful in fact he won the All Scholastic Division 1 Coach of the Year award for Girls Swimming:

Division 1 Coach of the Year

His Red Rocketeers finished the year with an 8-1 record and a Hockomock League title. Just more of the same for Kelly, who in eight seasons at the helm of his hometown team has led North Attleboro to a 63-12-1 record and five league championships.
Tim’s success at North Attleboro led him to receive an offer from Clark University to join their swim program as an Assistant Coach of the Cougars. Tim’s hiring led current Clark University swim team coach Paul E. Phillips to make the following comments:

Kelly, a native of North Attleboro, Mass., is currently the head coach of the Attleboro YMCA Tsunami swim team and the North Attleboro High School swim squads, where he has led both the boy’s and girl’s teams to three consecutive Bay Colony League Championships.
“Tim is a good friend of mine,” said Phillips. “He is someone that I’ve known for almost 10 years now and he has had a lot of success both at the high school and club level. With his skill and experience, he will be another knowledgeable voice on the pool deck.”
Kelly also guided the North Attleboro boy’s team to a pair of Massachusetts state runner-up appearances (2001-2003) and the girl’s team to a 33 dual-meet unbeaten streak. This marks the first collegiate coaching job for both Poda and Kelly.
I’m guessing Tim Kelly liked to scour the local pools for young ‘new talent’ to recruit for his team. One minute you are so proud of your son, or daughter is being noticed by this big time swim coach and then next you realize it’s because good ole Tim wanted to violate your child every which way to Sunday.
I’m guessing Tim hated shrinkage.

TK is a great man and an amazing coach there is no evidence of him ever doing anything with anyone and that’s because he never did. When he was scouring the local pools he was looking for talent for the team or looking to see what the competition was like on other teams. He was very professional and when he was workng he had the team at the front of his Mind and nothing else. The comments in the last paragraph are quite a stretch seeing as how he has so far, only been charged with downloading obscene material in the privacy of his own home. Which is a huge differnce from even wanting to violate a child. I won’t deny that what he was doing, if proved true was and is sick. It’s also clear he may need help for his addiction. But he keeps that in the privacy of his own home and he has done so much for his community and for the teams he has coached. He would never hurt anyone especially a child.

Thanks for the comment Dan. Sounds as if you know Mr. Kelly and are of the opinion he is a good guy. Personally I believe the saying ‘Where there is smoke, there is fire’ and the smoke was found on Tim’s personal computer, so it was only a matter of time before his kiddie porn addiction turned into a fire.
Question I have for you is, would you trust a child you love to the care of Tim?

The people of North Attleboro who knew him from swimming all love him. I wonder if all this is over if they will let him back into the various swimming jobs he has held.
I agree with “where there is smoke there is fire” and he should not be allowed back. I wouldn’t trust him with my child and will not allow my children on any swim team that TK is involved in.
Has Clark University eliminated him from his position?
