second amendment militia ar-15 automatic weapon rifle

Exploiters of the Second Amendment are afraid of President-Elect Obama and Joe Biden, so these gun advocates nutbags are stocking up on high powered weapons like milk and bread before a blizzard. Steve Sechler a gun dealer in the Phoenix area echoed the concerns of his customers and Sechler stated demand at a gun show jumped 50% since the election.

I understand the argument of second amendment proponents that an armed civilian society is a deterrent to a government which would otherwise seek to repress its people, but is it really unreasonable to restrict the sale of firearms which only the military has a valid excuse to own? It is complete bullshit for anyone in this country to argue the second amendment provides them the right to own a weapon capable of mowing down a village.

Obama has stated repeatedly he is not going to restrict gun ownership, or the right to purchase certain weapons, but advocates zealots aren’t buying what Obama is saying and the National Rifle Association is gearing up for a fight. This predicted fight between Obama and the NRA is strictly about profits and not about protecting our rights as Americans. There is no way you would ever convince me owning an AR-15 is for protection unless of course you are being hunted by wolverines, rabid honey badgers, sharks with legs,  tigers with light sabers, hippos with knives and old ladies with machine guns.

Personally I think a handgun, or a hunting rifle is more than adequate to ‘protect’ yourself and keep the second amendment intact.  The Founding Fathers of this country never in a million years would have included AR-15’s (pictured above with the flag), or Kalashnikov rifles as a right of all ‘people’ to own. Be a real man and buy the most bad ass handgun known to the world and protect yourself with that.

If you’re like me and watched McCain give his concession speech on Tuesday night you couldn’t help, but feel for a man who truly loves America and watched his lifelong dream of becoming President vanish forever. John McCain gave an impassioned speech which spoke to his true love of America and though I could feel the disappointment which emanated from him that evening, I didn’t feel sorry for him. In fact I felt just the opposite, because John McCain is a very fortunate man.

A huge number of men who fought in Vietnam either died on the battlefield, suffered debilitating physical injuries, or were stricken with a devastating mental illness which crippled their lives.  The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans estimates that nearly 200,000 veterans are homeless on any given night and nearly 400,000 experience homelessness over the course of a year. The post war life of many veterans is not something to envy and is quite frankly a national disgrace.

John McCain not only survived a horrifying ordeal being held captive for years in Hanoi’s main Hoa Lo Prison, nicknamed the “Hanoi Hilton”, but he succeeded to a level in life few ever aspire to. The emotional and physical scars of a life at war never left John McCain, but he persevered through a difficult personal life including a divorce from his first wife Carol Shepp.

Despite all the setbacks John McCain suffered in his life and all the trying moments which might have crushed another under its weight, he ascended to great heights and almost grasped the Presidency. John McCain is a wealthy man, an honored man, a true American hero and when he dies will be provided a legendary funeral so deserved of his sacrifices for this country.

I voted for Barack Obama, but will always feel John McCain, while imperfect, deserves our respect and admiration.

…So today I want to speak to every person who voted for my opponent: To make this nation stronger and better I will need your support, and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust. A new term is a new opportunity to reach out to the whole nation. We have one country, one Constitution and one future that binds us. And when we come together and work together, there is no limit to the greatness of America.
President George W. Bush 2004 Post Election Victory Speech

Barack Obama would be wise to learn from the mistakes of President Bush and though there were many, in my opinion the greatest was moving to close to the middle and alienating his core support group on the right. In trying to be a President who ‘reached across the aisle’, it was never far enough to the left to sway Democrat support and worlds away from the right which pissed off Republicans.

As Lincoln said to a nation far more divided than ours, we are not enemies but friends. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection.

And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn, I may not have won your vote tonight, but I hear your voices. I need your help. And I will be your president, too.
President Barack Obama 2008 Post Election Victory speech

At the dawn of Obama’s newly elected Presidency it will be important to gain support of all Washington leaders, but Obama must stay true to his word of ‘Change’ and this means staying to the left on his decisions. There are many reasons for President Bush’s low approval rating, but with over 55 million people voting Republican in 2008, this clearly indicates Bush lost support not because people turned Democrat, but because Republicans never felt supported by him as President. Obama will never make both parties happy, but he can’t risk mowing down the people who helped get him elected.

Obama must remain loyal to the Democratic Party, loyal to people like 106 year old Ann Louise Nixon Cooper whom Obama spoke eloquently about, even if this loyalty is viewed as playing hardball against the Republicans. This election was won through support of people like Ms. Nixon, herself an active community member in Atlanta, Cooper spent more than fifty years on the board of directors of the Gate City Nursery Association, but living up to the expectations of so many will cause Obama to spread himself to thin and fracture his support base.

Obama need look no further than his own victory to realize change need not appeal to everyone to be considered in the best interest of the country. Barack Obama in many ways will find himself facing many of the same economic and global war time challenges that Franklin Delano Roosevelt confronted in the 30’s and 40’s. FDR started his bid for Presidency in Chicago and Obama accepted his victory there as well, but let’s hope Barack doesn’t succumb to the stress the same way Roosevelt did during his Presidency.

The winner for November 4th, 2008 is Oprah! Congratulation to President-Elect Barack Obama on his historic victory and to Oprah Winfrey for once again proving how utterly clueless she is about her own shortcomings.

For Oprah to make light of addiction when she herself has spent an entire lifetime battling the urge for Twinkies and Ding-Dongs, it certifies her as our Morally Broke Loser of the Day. Listen for yourself at the 1:20 mark and you’ll here Ms. Winfrey comment to breast cancer survivor Robin Roberts of ABC news about how  happy she was even to have the vote of a ‘drug addict‘. As if the ‘drug addict’ vote wasn’t as special as the almighty Oprah’s. Oh no! Oprah’s vote should have counted at least 277 times, or her last recorded weight.

The reason ABC wasn’t able to immediately find Oprah was due to her canvassing the area for hot dog and fried dough vendors and when she found out none were available, well.
